10 minutes old
I developed pre-eclampsia late in my pregnancy and had to have an urgent fairly rushed induction 2 weeks early. It was all a little harrowing but what matters is that she's here and we're both alive and healthy. Maybe I'll tell more of that story later on, maybe not. But having left home to 'quickly pick up some test results', returning 5 days later with our baby was one of the most defining moments of my life. The evening sunshine was streaming in through the lounge windows, the flat was spotlessly clean (thanks to my mister) and my friends had been round and dropped off food, presents, flowers and hung bunting. I stood in the hall with our perfect healthy baby, here with us, making us three, and I wept tears of happiness.
Our lounge looks and smells like a florist. This is due mostly to my amazing husband who has been lavishing me with flowers since before she arrived. The floor is scattered with coffee cups, baby socks and breast pads (but never for too long under Dave's wachful eye) and there are innumerable tiny baby grows and cardigans drying on all the radiators in the house.
We are revelling in these baby-filled spring days. Long walks with our tiny baby in the sling, cards and parcels arriving in the post daily, trips to coffee shops, long afternoon naps, eating food cooked for us by our friends and stock piled in the freezer. We spend hours just looking at her tiny fingernails and downy hair and almost invisibe eye brows and marvelling at the soft putty-like skin on her back. We are literally overjoyed, and loving it all.
